In Detail
The Digital Decade Programme is the first-ever digital strategy jointly agreed by the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council. It is a strategic initiative that defines a vision for Europe’s digital transformation by 2030. The Commission is expected to review the targets by 2026, taking stock of technological, economic, and social developments within the European Union.
Within the framework of the European Digital Decade Programme, Member States are required to submit to the Commission national roadmaps specifying the actions they intend to undertake to collectively achieve the Digital Decade objectives for 2030.
Thus, each roadmap sets out the actions adopted or planned until 2030 to jointly attain the digital targets and the overarching goals established by the Digital Decade Programme. These strategic roadmaps also outline the expected national trajectories, as well as the anticipated impact of policies, measures, and actions.
The national roadmaps may be adjusted every two years, taking into account changes and updates to policies and technologies.
