In Detail
The European Commission has launched a public consultation for stakeholders on the use of artificial intelligence in the health and pharmaceutical sectors.
The initiative aims to gather input on the benefits, enabling factors and barriers to the adoption of AI systems in these sectors, as well as on their real-world impact and the potential to scale up solutions that are already in use.
The survey follows the publication of the “Apply AI” strategy in October 2025 and focuses on the use of AI in areas such as healthcare delivery, clinical research, medicines development and other applications across the pharmaceutical sector.
Through this evidence-gathering exercise, the European Commission aims to inform future policy measures on AI in health and pharmaceuticals, while also supporting the implementation of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) in these areas.
The consultation is open to healthcare providers, companies operating in the sector — including SMEs and AI solution providers — pharmaceutical companies, medical societies, patient organisations and industry associations.
The deadline for contributions is 26 June 2026, at 17:00 CET.
