In Detail
The European Commission has launched a public consultation on the draft transparency guidelines set out in the European Artificial Intelligence Regulation (AI Act). The consultation is open until 3rd June, inviting citizens, businesses, public bodies and civil society organisations to submit contributions via the initiative's official page: https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/Art50guidelines.
The guidelines under consultation aim to support providers in applying the AI Act's transparency obligations, including clear information to users and the identification of content generated or manipulated by AI, including in the course of interactions with AI systems. The document presents practical interpretations, implementation examples and criteria designed to promote consistent application of the rules across the European Union.
This survey is aimed at businesses — from start-ups and SMEs to large enterprises — and other organisations that develop and deploy AI systems that interact with individuals or generate synthetic content, including deepfakes. Stakeholders are also invited to share their perspectives, including AI system providers and developers, businesses and public authorities, as well as academia, research institutions and citizens.
This consultation is grounded in a collaborative process involving public authorities, industry, academia and civil society. These guidelines complement the Code of Practice on transparency of AI-generated content, which is likewise being finalised in parallel. The aim is to strengthen trust in the use of AI systems and ensure consistent implementation of the AI Act's provisions.
