In Detail
The Strategic Vision Proposal for 5G in Public Administration seeks to transform how public services are delivered in Portugal, harnessing the potential of 5G technology to accelerate the digital transition and promote national cohesion. Developed by the Agency for Administrative Modernisation (Agência para a Modernização Administrativa, AMA), the strategic vision sets out a comprehensive plan to integrate 5G into public sector operations, with the aim of modernising administration, increasing efficiency, and improving citizens’ quality of life.
5G represents the next generation of mobile networks, offering ultra-fast speeds, low latency, and unprecedented connectivity capacity. These features are essential to enabling technological innovations such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence, and Edge Computing, which can transform services in areas such as healthcare, transport, security, and resource management, among others.
The proposal sets guidelines to ensure an efficient and equitable implementation of 5G, covering both urban and rural areas, and promoting a closer, smarter, and more accessible Public Administration. The plan includes initiatives for developing robust infrastructure, innovative pilot projects, and training programmes, aimed at preparing the country for the challenges and opportunities of the digital revolution.
Through this strategic proposal, Portugal reinforces its commitment to becoming a reference in digital modernisation, providing a Public Administration that responds to citizens’ and businesses’ needs in a more agile, integrated, and secure manner. The implementation of 5G is a crucial step in making the country a leader in adopting emerging technologies and building a more connected and competitive society.
