Upskill

Last update of the initiative: 20/07/2022

A professional reskilling programme in the field of digital technologies, combining intensive training with integration into the job market.

What is it?

UPskill is a professional reskilling programme in digital technologies, designed for unemployed or underemployed individuals. Participants receive intensive training in higher education institutions, followed by placement in the job market.

What makes this programme unique is that the training content, location and number of trainees are defined directly by companies, based on their needs – ensuring strong employability after completion.

Target audience

Unemployed or underemployed individuals with at least a completed secondary education.

Stages

Stage 0 | Needs assessment

Companies identify their hiring needs, define the technological areas and specify the regions where qualified professionals are required.

Stage 1 | Application and selection

Candidates register on the UPskill website. Selection is carried out through online tests and an interview.

Stage 2 | Training in ICT and electronics

Preferably in person, lasting between 3 and 6 months, delivered by higher education institutions. Participants receive a training allowance supported by the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional – IEFP).

Stage 3 | Internship or workplace-based training

A 3-month professional training period carried out in companies participating in the UPskill programme, with a training allowance provided by the host company.

Stage 4 | Job placement

Companies commit to hiring at least 80% of trainees who successfully complete the training and pass the company interviews, offering a gross monthly salary of no less than €1,200 (including meal allowance).
